Hidden treasures of Amsterdam
In a city known worldwide for its canals, museums and vibrant energy, it is easy to lose sight of the more hushed, centuries-old side. But those who look closely – or better yet, those who take a guided tour – discover another layer of Amsterdam. A city of hidden churches, medieval chapels, pilgrim routes and age-old stories of faith, devotion and hospitality.
Born out of love for Amsterdam’s hidden heritage
Holy City Amsterdam was born out of a deep admiration for the city’s hidden religious heritage. The initiators — passionate lovers of culture, history and Catholic heritage — saw how valuable places and stories were becoming less and less visible in the modern cityscape. With this initiative they want to invite visitors to get to know an often forgotten, but meaningful side of Amsterdam.
Through carefully curated walks, we show how the religious past is still palpable in the city – in monuments, street names and quiet places.
